Kerry boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice felt bruised as he surveyed the wreakage of his side’s 1-10 to 0-15 defeat to Mayo last time out in the NFL.

This Sunday, Monaghan fans will be hoping it’ll be a case of a bruised and a battered Fitzmaurice circa 3.30pm after his side host Malachy O’Rourke’s men.

This weekend’s clash is more important than an ordinary third round fixture might suggest ‘cause the eventual winner will have cause to be entitled to look towards the summit while the loser will be hard pressed not to look over the shoulder and wonder.
