MALACHY’S MEN MUST STAND TALL AGAINST WOUNDED KERRY AT HOME

Beware the wounded beast, might well be the maxim for Monaghan when they travel to the Kingdom to take on a Kerry side that will still be hurting from their defeat by Mayo last time out.

Kerry had started the league with a flourish, full of running and inventive football to take the 2 points in their opening game away to Donegal in O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny, and while one point was the margin at the finish in that one it did not reflect Kerry’s superiority for the bulk of that match. In fact it was only after they withdrew their more influential figures like James O’Donoghue, Paul Geaney and Donncha Walsh that Donegal came into the game, although Kerry will have learned the lesson that changing horses in mid-race can sometimes unsettle things.

That victory in Letterkenny though was the first opening round league win for Eamon Fitzmaurice as Kerry manager and Monaghan travel…
