BRITISH PM SETS OUT OBJECTIVES FOR BREXIT NEGOTIATIONS

THE implications for small firms and business enterprises, on the Co. Monaghan side of the Border, in the wake of the countdown to Brexit, has sent many firms into a major flurry in recent days, with calls made this week for financial support schemes for companies in the exporting sectors.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday the Carrickmacross-based Sinn Féin MEP Matt Carthy met with the EU’s chief negotiator on Brexit, Michel Barnier, for top-level talks on the issue.

The MEP joined his Sinn Féin colleagues, Martina Anderson and Liadh Ní Riada, and other Irish MEPs at the engagement in Strasbourg, which was organised by Fine Gael’s Sean Kelly.

Top level talks were also held between Mr. Barnier and the Sinn Fein MEP Mairead McGuinness.

Speaking after his discussions with Mr. Barnier, the Sinn Fein MEP Mr. Carthy said:
“Our meeting with Michel Barnier, the EU chief negotiator on Brexit, was both constructive and informative. It was particularly timely being on the same day as the keynote speech of British Prime Minister Theresa May in which she confirmed that her Government is planning for a ‘hard Brexit’.
