CALL FOR N2 ROAD SAFETY ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED

A call was made at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council for measures to be taken to reduce the recurrence of serious road traffic accidents on a stretch of the N2 in the county.

It was proposed by Sinn Féin councillor Noel Keelan that the Council note the ongoing safety issues on the N2, in particular on the stretch of road from Aclint Bridge to Castleblayney, and call on Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Government to consider the redesign of the road or its alteration to dual carriageway status.

“The accident statistics on this road are appalling,” Councillor Keelan stated.
