AUGHNAMULLEN’S SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO BRENDAN HAMILL

It may have happened 60 years ago now when Monaghan won that famous All Ireland Junior Football Championship title back in 1956, but memories of one of their all-time greats being involved, was the cause of great celebration in Aughnamullen on Wednesday night last, December 28th, when Brendan Hamill was the guest of honour and the club unveiled a special plaque to commemorate his part in Monaghan’s success.
Brendan’s son, Dermot, is the current Chairman of the Aughnamullen club and he welcomed everyone to the event and also thanked the organising committee under the Chairmanship of PJ Forde for, first of all, floating the idea and then secondly, bringing it to fruition with a very successful presentation night. Former Aughnamullen player Eamon McArdle was a very capable Fear a Ti and in introducing proceedings he outlined the events of 1956, referring also to events of 2 years previously, that resulted in Monaghan being able to field quite a strong team at Junior level in 1956.
