MAJOR WATER MAINS PROJECT TO COMMENCE IN MONAGHAN TOWN EARLY IN 2017

A contract had now been awarded by Irish Water for the carrying out of major rehabilitation works to the water mains in Monaghan Town, Monaghan Co Council’s Head of Finance John Murray told Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District.

Mr Murray said the works were likely to last for 12 months.

Municipal District Co-ordinator Donal McElwain said this was a project that had been on the cards for a number of years. Irish Water and the local authority’s own water section would be upgrading the mains and replacing some sections of it.

“We will have more details for you in January,” Mr McElwain told the elected members.

Sean Conlon (Sinn Féin) noted that since 2014 they had been looking to get work done in the Mall Road area of the town, where there were water pressure problems.
