MONAGHAN WORKER DIES IN BOGLAND COLLAPSE

Investigations are continuing into the death on Monday evening of a man from County Monaghan at a wind farm site on a mountain bog at Kilronan on the Sligo/Roscommon border.

  37 year-old Paddy McCaffrey was originally from Rockdaniel Road in Carrickmacross but had been living with his wife Helen in Rossinver, Co. Leitrim, for over four years.

  He was killed while carrying out ground work in preparation for the installation of twelve tall turbines at Derrysallagh Wind Farm, close to the former mining village of Arigna. Construction began in July on the new 34 MW wind farm, which is due to be connected to the electricity grid at the end of next year.

  According to the Health and Safety Authority which is leading the investigation, it appears that the victim was trapped in a trench collapse that occurred sometime before 7pm. Gardaí say Mr McCaffrey was …
