County Secretary Anita Finnegan, in introducing her report, described 2016 as “another exciting year for Monaghan GAA both on and off the field. Retaining status in the Allianz League Division 1, the U21’s winning the Ulster U21 Championship, the Senior Hurling team reaching the Allianz Hurling League Div. 3A final, the Minor Hurlers winning the Ulster MHL Div. 2 title, County, Ulster and All Ireland titles for Gaeil Triucha in Scór Sinsir, the County U16 Development Squad winning the Buncarna Cup for a third in a row, Ulster Football All Star Award for Conor McManus, Conor McKenna, Truagh, on making the Nicky Rackard All Star Hurling Team and Monaghan winning the “GAA Website of the Year Award” at the 2015 McNamee Awards in Croke Park”.

Her report went on to say that “Monaghan still continue to achieve at the highest levels possible, both on and off the playing fields at National Level. The above achievements are a result of hard work and dedication by the members of the GAA in Monaghan and long may it all continue”.

Her report then goes on to address the whole area of all the county teams in football and hurling stating that “although Monaghan have no silverware at senior level in 2016 they still continue to produce great displays on the playing fields, especially the NFL game against Dublin in Croke Park and the Allianz Football League game against Donegal in Castleblayney” and describing “remaining in Division 1 for another year as hard fought but achieved”.
