All-Ieland Ladies Senior Club Football Final

The #Drivefor5 and #Back2back were the hashtags and rallying cries used by the Donaghamoyne ladies team this year as they set out to claim a fifth All Ireland Senior Club title and, more importantly, from their perspective, achieve historic back-to-back All-Ireland senior title triumphs.

And it was a case of Mission Accomplished as the Monaghan and Ulster champions led from gun to tape to overcome their well-fancied opponents, Foxrock-Cabinteely who came into the game as Dublin and Leinster kingpins.

Right from the throw in of their final against the ladies from the capital in Parnell Park on Sunday last, the Fontenoy side were in the driving seat and had all but steered their way to that fifth title by half time when they led by 1-7 to 0-2.

Catriona Mc Connell was the one doing the expert steering finishing with 1-5, her goal in the 13th minute adding to four points that the defending champions already had on the scoreboard after blitzing the champions from the east in the opening quarter.

The in-form McConnell bagged two of those early points while sisters Sharon and Cora Courtney also found the range.

When Ann Marie Murphy and Amy Connolly did finally register scores for the amalgamated side coming up to half time, even at that stage they looked like consolation scores, especially as Donagmoyne immediately took control again at the start of the second half with another Catriona Mc Connell point before a brilliant kick passing move the length of the field saw Louise Kerley capitalise on a mistake from Foxrock keeper Laurie Ahern to …
