Last Sunday night was a red letter night for Monaghan Ladies Football when another two local luminaries of the sport received the highest individual accolade possible on a glittering occasion at Dublin’s City West hotel.

The LGFA All Star Awards was a night of nights with a good Monaghan contingent present to see more awards head Farney-way!

After an enthralling season of TG4 Ladies Football the 45 nominees for the TG4 All Star team for 2016 took to the red carpet in the City West. A large crowd from the county travelled up to support Monaghan’s four nominees.

After some wonderful entertainment Daithi O Shea and Marty Morrissey took to the stage to announce the final 15.

The TG4 Senior All Ireland champions Cork, led the way with six awards followed by runners up Dublin with five.

There was a huge applause from the crowd when Grainne Mc Nally received the left half back position, her 3rd All Star award and then more celebrations when Ciara Mc Anespie picked up the right corner forward position – her third also.

It was a case of hard luck for county duo Sharon Courtney and Aoife Mc Anespie, Monaghan’s other two nominees but, all told, it was yet another good night for Monaghan as they were Ulster’s only winners.

Armagh’s Dearbhla Coleman picked up the Ulster Young Player of the Year award.
