Monaghan Junior champions Blackhill Emeralds staged a scintillating second-half performance to literally blow away the challenge of Armagh Junior champions Clonmore in this entertaining and well contested, if somewhat one-sided in the latter stages, quarter-final that was played in excellent if a little greasy conditions in Clones on Sunday last.

Clonmore were on the offensive immediately on the throw-in and they opened the scoring with a point from a free by Brendan Donaghy, who was the architect of most of their attacking strategy in the first half but was increasingly ineffective in the latter stages.

Clonmore then had wing half forward Paul O’Donnell black carded for a late body check on Blackhill’s James Daly in the 3rd minute. Undeterred they added points by Raymond McBennett in the 5th minute and Brendan Rodgers with an excellent free from distance in the 7th minute to open a 3 points lead.

Blackhill did carve out an early goal chance but they didn’t open their account until the 10th minute when Michael Geehan converted a free for a foul on Tommy Geehan.
