Donaghmoyne often finished empty-handed after playing well in finals, according to their manager Paddy Martin, but there was pure relief for the Fontenoys as they got over the line in last Sunday’s McElvaney Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship decider against Rockcorry.

Donaghmoyne were on the wrong side of a similar one-point scoreline against neighbours Inniskeen in this fixture two years ago, but this time, they edged the result at the expense of first-time IFC finalists Rockcorry, who were aiming for a third championship trophy in the space of 12 months.

There was heartbreak for Rockcorry as they just missed out on becoming the fourth team to immediately follow up a JFC win with IFC…
