Castleblayney’s scenic Lough Muckno amenity was announced the Best Local Authority Initiative at last Thursday’s 2016 Irish Responsible Tourism Awards.

The award winners were announced at a ceremony at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin 8.

Speaking at the reception, Cathaoirleach of the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney Municipal District, Fine Gael member of Monaghan Co Council Aidan Campbell said he was delighted to see Lough Muckno being recognised at a national level.

“When you beat off competition from among other places like Westport we must be doing something right and that deserves recognition,” Councillor Campbell stated.
“This is another fantastic day for the Castleblayney area. This accolade adds to some of the recent work which has taken place in the area with the opening of the newly restored Gatehouse and the new car park at the play area.”
