PETITION SUPPORTING CHRISTINA MCMAHON RECEIVES OVER 1,000 SIGNATURES BUT BOXER IS FORMALLY SUSPENDED BY WBC

A petition started by supporters of Carrickmacross boxer Christina McMahon to put pressure on the World Boxing Council to order a rematch in Ireland with Zulina Muñoz reached over 1,000 signatures within four days of it being launched. But ‘Lightning’ McMahon has now been suspended indefinitely by the WBC after going public with a number of concerns she had about her title bout in Mexico in March.

  She lost to Muñoz on a controversial unanimous points decision and was later promised a rematch. With the WBC continuing to stall on arrangements for a return fight, her husband and coach Frick McMahon revealed a list of alleged indiscretions by the governing body, including glove irregularities, anti-doping procedural failings, and a failure to review correctly the scorecards.
