MONAGHAN COUNTY MUSEUM EXHIBITION SHORTLISTED FOR NATIONAL AWARD

Monaghan County Museum’s 1916 exhibition From a Whisper to a Roar has been shortlisted for a prestigious Chambers Ireland Award.

Chambers Ireland was set up to act as an umbrella group for all of the Chambers of Commerce countrywide and as such is the biggest business organisation in the country. Each year, since 2004, it acknowledges the often unappreciated work, dedication and innovation of local authorities in a number of categories.

This year, because of the centenaries of both The Rising and the Battle of the Somme, an extra classification was added to the category ‘Excellence in Local Authority Award’, namely ‘Commemoration and Centenaries’. This is the category that the museum is shortlisted for.

This centenary year has seen commemorations in every corner of the country and practically every museum and heritage centre has produced an exhibition or an event. Therefore, it is a great achievement for Monaghan Museum to be shortlisted …
