The deaths of a father, mother and three children in an apparent murder/suicide incident in Co Cavan at the weekend evoked a minute’s silence and a brief adjournment of business at Tuesday’s meeting of the Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board.

Gardaí found the bodies of Alan Hawe, his wife Clodagh and their sons Liam, Niall and Ryan at their home at Oakdene, Barconey, Ballyjamesduff on Monday.

At the outset of the business of Tuesday’s ETB meeting at the Garage Theatre in Monaghan Town, Chairperson Cathy Bennett proposed a five-minute adjournment in light of the death of the Hawe family in Ballyjamesduff.

Members concurred without comment, and the business was adjourned following the observation of a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the deceased, all present standing.
