Monaghan Harps, who were defeated in last year’s Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship Final, got their 2016 championship aspirations back on track when they staged a strong second-half performance to knock Castleblayney out.

The crucial score was a goal by Gary White with eight minutes remaining and when Neil McAdam added a point immediately afterwards to put the Harps four points up, it left Castleblayney with quite a job on their hands. To their credit, Castleblayney rallied, but they could not engineer that vital breakthrough for the goal they needed.

Earlier Castleblayney had started the brighter and were ahead by three points after nine minutes but after a scrappy remainder of the first half, Monaghan Harps were vastly improved in the second half and applied themselves much more effectively to turn it around.

Gary White opened the scoring with a point for Monaghan Harps in the first ….
