Reigning champions Scotstown will have to rely on the back door route if they are to retain their Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship title following this defeat to Latton who were full value for their victory as they executed their game plan very effectively while Scotstown just failed to sparkle on the day.

Despite conceding an early goal and losing Darren Hughes to injury after some 5 minutes Scotstown more than broke even in the opening half and opened a 2 points lead by the 20th minute but Latton rattled over 4 unanswered points in the run-up to half time to lead by one at the break. Latton consolidated further in the third quarter as they contained the Scotstown threat and broke for valuable scores on the break, although Scotstown’s cause was not helped when they lost full-back Emmet Caulfield to a straight red card entering the final quarter.

Latton used their numerical advantage well and hit Scotstown for vital scores leaving the champions needing a goal if they were to have any chance of turning it around, but they simply lacked the penetration to breach the Latton rearguard and even the reintroduction of Darren Hughes had little effect.
