The Monaghan 10 & 5 mile road race will be taking place this Sunday, 14th August at 12.30. This is the 6th year of this prestigious event and following last year’s success it is fast becoming part of the athletics calendar locally and nationally. A large number of runners and athletic clubs from both sides of the border participated in the event last year and the winning male athlete, Freddy Kieron Stuk, an international athlete from Kenya, will be returning this year hoping to retain his crown.

The race begins and finishes at Coral Leisure Centre. There will be lots of activities for non-runners at the centre with stalls, face painting and DJs to help get the party started. The 10 mile course is perfect for the more serious runner and is great preparation for those training for the Dublin City Marathon. The route takes each runner around Monaghan Town and then out to Ballinode village before returning to Coral Lesiure centre via the Rugby club, Milltown and Hastings Cross. The 10 Miler is probably Ireland’s flatest road race! There is also a 5 mile race along a shorter route for runners and walkers. Every participant will receive a medal, head buff and goodie bag filled to excess.

Registration at Monaghan Leisure Centre, Clones Road on Sunday morning 9.30-12.00, with the race starting at 12.30. Registration can also be done at Monaghan Shopping Centre on Saturday from 9:30am to 5pm. Entry fee 10 mile race €25 and 5 mile race €15.
