The 61st Castleblayney Show enjoyed another record-setting winning hand when it was staged on Monday last.

Our picture by Rory Geary shows country music royalty in the personages of Big Tom McBride and Margo mingling with Show Queen Emma Cooney, Monaghan Rose of Tralee Pamela Allen, Show Chairman David Montgomery and Carrickmacross-Castleblayney Municipal District Cathaoirleach Aidan Campbell.

Big Tom officially opened the proceedings, which unfolded in weather conditions that held favourable and set the scene for a captivating experience for the large crowds that milled around the manifold attractions of the occasion.

One of the competitive highlights was the hosting of the All-Ireland Bread Baking Championship, with Offaly contestant Pauline Kilmartin carrying off the top prize.

Extending appreciation to all those who supported this year’s event, Show Chairman David Montgomery stated: “Castleblayney Show takes pride in representing all aspects of Irish culture and agriculture, showcasing all our local talents and fine produce.”
