“It is with great honour that I will go to the Dome representing Monaghan. Without a doubt, I will wear my sash with great pride,” said newly selected Monaghan Rose for 2016, Pamela Allen.
The 22-year-old, who hails from Drumacruttin, Dunraymond, a few miles outside Monaghan Town, was chosen as the new Rose at the selection night in The Four Seasons Hotel last Saturday night. She took the crown and sash from 2015 Rose, Scotstown native Michelle Caulfield and was one of 11 contestants vying for the role.
Pamela, who is a daughter of Jim and Iris Allen and was sponsored by Keith Allen Agri, currently works as a General Staff Nurse in a 36-bedded private medical/surgical ward in Tallaght Hospital. She has thoroughly enjoyed the Rose experience so far as the Rose contestants had a number of days out and events to attend ahead of the selection night.
“The highlight for me was the Rose Tour. This involved a number of activities such as zumba lessons, drama classes and visiting spots around Monaghan. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.”
The 2016 Monaghan Rose felt she faced stiff competition from the ten other participants and she paid a warm tribute to them for the support and enthusiasm they showed to her.
