A CLOSE-KNIT mid-Monaghan rural community at Doohamlet was shocked and stunned last week to learn of the sudden death of a popular local resident and father-of-three, Mr. Kenneth Duffy, Clenanore.

The deceased was found dead at the dwelling close to where his wife Catherine was discovered in a semi-conscious state. She was immediately rushed to Cavan General Hospital, where she was reported to be making a good recovery but still suffering from severe shock and trauma,   in the wake of the sudden death of her husband.

Relatives who were visiting the couple at their homestead, just   off the Cois Cill Road, Doohamlet, on Thursday night last, made the grim discovery.

The couple’s children, Conor, Liam, and Shauna, were out of the house when the tragedy happened.

Neighbours have described the couple, who also had a dwelling at Silverbridge in South Armagh, and each in their early fifties, as very friendly and hugely respected throughout the local community.

The late Mr. Duffy’s funeral is taking place today (Thurs) with the removal of the remains to All Saints’ Church, Doohamlet, for requiem mass at 11 a.m followed by burial in the adjacent cemetery.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved family circle on the sad tragedy.
