St. Macartan’s College recorded one of its best ever returns at the Ulster Colleges Finals Tournament in Kingscourt on February 6, starting when Tiarnán O’Rourke (Monaghan Harps) took the juvenile (U-13&1/2) title with wins in the semi-final against Patrick Cowan of St. Colman’s, Newry and in the final against Jonathan Owens from Omagh CBS. The U-15&1/2 Singles title went to the in-form Eoghan McGinnity (Monaghan Harps). Having already won the 60×30 Colleges title in this age-grade earlier this year, Eoghan accounted for Dáire Savage (St. Colman’s) in the quarter-final, followed by Brian McAleer of Omagh CBS in the semi-final. Eoghan went on to defeat the impressive Ronan Curran (Dean Maguirc College) in the final. The senior doubles title went to the St. Macartan’s pair of Gary McKenna and Dermot Boyle (both Truagh), who defeated Matthew Donnelly and Eoin Quinn from Dean Maguirc College.

The All-Ireland series took place place in Kingscourt last Saturday, with the Sem representing Ulster in two events. As there is no national U-13&1/2 event, Tiarnán O’Rourke was not…
