The principal of a Carrickmacross secondary school that figured highly in a recent “league tables” survey published in the national press has questioned the value of the system in giving parents a complete picture of what schools have to offer.

Principal of Carrick’s St Louis Secondary School Eileen English said this week that many parents of primary school children took a keen interest in the league tables published by the Sunday Independent on January 24.

“Choosing the right second level school for a child is a process that parents invest a lot of time and thought into,” the principal commented.

“But parents should be warned not to take these league tables at face value.”
