“I don’t know what we are going to do now, we are at our wits’ end.”

So said Noel Maxwell as he spoke to The Northern Standard about damage caused to a barrier at the back of the Masonic Hall, which is located on Glaslough Street in Monaghan town, two weekends in a row. The barrier was broken off and stolen approximately two weeks ago and it cost the Hall’s members €300 to replace. Last Friday night it was broken off once again but this time the damaged barrier was left on the premises.

The Masonic Hall members spent €16,000 around two months ago doing up the yard that the barrier is located in and such damage being done two weeks in a row was in Mr Maxwell’s opinion, very disheartening.

“It’s a disgrace that this can happen twice. We are not going to put another one (barrier) on as we have no money at the minute. I don’t know what we are going to do now, we are at our wits’ end.”

A number of vehicles around the Monaghan Shopping Centre car park area and the Killygoan area of Monaghan town were also damaged last Friday night, as …
