THE heat is on for Monaghan woman Cathy Mac Kenna, who has reached the final of TV programme The Great Irish Bake Off.

Speaking to The Northern Standard, the delighted Milltown based baker said she was “over the moon” as she never expected to get as far in the competition.

“I feel over the moon to have reached the final. I never expected to get this far so it’s hugely exciting! I’m a little bit nervous as we have a very big Show Stopper bake ahead of us but the excitement definitely outweighs the nerves.”   Cathy paid warm tribute to fellow Monaghan contestant Fionnadh McGonigle from Clones, who was eliminated from the show at last weekend’s semi-final stage, and wished her well.

“I’m sad not to have the lovely Fionnadh by my side in the final and want to say a huge well done to her.”

Cathy also expressed her appreciation to everybody who had passed on supportive messages and good wishes to her. She is one of three female finalists on the show. The trio will compete in the grand finale on Sunday night on TV3 at the later time of 10pm. They will be seen taking on a number of challenges issued by judges including the creation of a Show Stopper and three-tiered wedding cake in five hours.
