Ballybay is to retain its Dept of Social Protection office “for the foreseeable future”, Fine Gael TD for Cavan/Monaghan Sean Conlan has stated.

Indications that the office and the jobs attached to it would be transferred to Monaghan Town have generated a great deal of debate and controversy among both national and local political representatives in recent times, with the issue again emerging as a bone of contention at the most recent meeting of Monaghan Co Council.

Deputy Conlan told The Northern Standard that the office, which formally discharged a function of the Dept of Agriculture, would remain in Ballybay for the foreseeable future, following lobbying and representations he had made to the Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton TD, and Minister of State with Special Responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Simon Harris TD.

“This is an issue on which I have been very vocal for the last 12 months, and on which I have lobbied the relevant Government Ministers and met with the relevant personnel in Leinster House on a continuous basis,” he stated.
