CASTLEBLAYNEY continued their return to form with a comfortable Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship win over Truagh in Emyvale last Saturday night.

Blayney led from start to finish as they claimed a second victory inside a week, with nine players getting on the scoresheet. This result represented a 21-point scoreline from the teams’ previous meeting, which saw Truagh cruise home with ten to spare in the league at the end of May.

Ciarán Hanratty and Brendan McElroy, who had done most of the damage against Donaghmoyne, were well held for most of this game, but the likes of Martin McElroy, Dermot and Fergal Malone, Patrick Tavey and Pauric Greene had productive games. John McCarron and Niall McQuillan defended well for Truagh, but none of their players scored more than once from play as they made a disappointing exit, kicking 14 wides in the process.

Castleblayney started as they meant to go on, via a well-taken point by Patrick Tavey. Pauric Greene doubled Blayney’s lead after winning the breaking ball from a Bart McNamara kick-out, before Jim McHugh linked up with Mark Treanor for a goal chance, which was denied by Truagh keeper Ian Treanor.
