The reputation for academic excellence enjoyed by second level schools throughout Co Monaghan has been enhanced by the high level of performance recorded by students who received their Leaving Certificate results, yesterday (Wednesday).

Students from Ballybay Community College were generally positive about how the exam had turned out for them when visited by The Northern Standard yesterday.

And Monaghan Collegiate School Principal Johnston Reid described the results obtained by his pupils as most gratifying.

Congratulating the students on their great success, Mr Reid noted that the range of future courses which they had chosen to pursue included teaching, veterinary science, nursing, agriculture, the humanities, business and art. He wished them well in their diverse careers.

The Collegiate Principal also commented that there were a number of students who had achieved way beyond their expectation – their hard work, along with the support of their family and the dedication of school staff, had reaped great reward.

Mr Reid had special congratulations for Gary McConkey, the top achieving student in the school.
