JUDGE Denis McLoughlin, the newly appointed resident District Court judge for the Cavan/Monaghan area (Court District Number 5), was welcomed by speakers representing the legal community, court staff, the gardai and the Probation Service at the outset of Monday’s sitting of Monaghan District Court.
A native of Drogheda in Co Louth, Judge McLoughlin was confirmed as new residing judge for Cavan/Monaghan following a meeting of the Government on 27th May last. Having been made a judge on 6th June 2007, he takes up the permanent post in District 5 following the retirement of the previous incumbent, Judge Sean MacBride on 15th March last.
Having frequently presided over courts in the region as a “movable judge” in recent years, and particularly in the two months since Judge MacBride’s retirement, the new judge is already a familiar figure in the courts in both Cavan and Monaghan.
On behalf of the Court Office in Monaghan, court clerk Michelle McPhillips welcomed Judge McLoughlin as the new resident judge in District 5, adding that court staff looked forward to working with him.
Alan Wilkie, solr, on behalf of the Monaghan Bar Association, told Judge McLoughlin it was a great pleasure to welcome him. The association had an expectation and indeed a hope that he would be appointed to the District, and could now assure him that its members would provide every assistance they could to him in his position as the new judge.
Welcoming and congratulating the new resident …
