After a weekend of heavy rain the sun came out on our bank holiday Monday for the Monaghan Lions Club Annual Golf Classic in aid of the County Monaghan Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland. Golfers travelled from far and wide to be part of the day and hopefully be in with a chance to win some of the excellent prizes on offer sponsored by Scania Ireland, O’Loughlin Insurance and Concra Wood Golf Club.

Monaghan Lions Club would like to say a huge word of thanks to all the people who made our annual Golf Classic another great success – to the many team and tee sponsors, all those taking part, the team at Rossmore for having the course in such excellent condition and the bar and catering team for looking after us all so well. We were delighted to hand over another €15,000 to Mae Murphy to help with the running of services provided in Drumkill at the presentation that evening.

Earlier in the afternoon a loud cheer could be heard from the course in the Club House. The news followed shortly that a lucky golfer had scored a “hole in one” on the 16th. An already delighted John Joe Plunkett (from Slieve Russell Golf Club) playing on the MC Motor Factors team then discovered that he would also be picking up a prize of €1000 ….
