LATTON secured a second narrow home win in the County Monaghan Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League in less than a week when they edged out Inniskeen on Monday.

Three consecutive defeats had seen Latton slip to second-from-bottom ahead of last Wednesday’s clash with Magheracloone, but they won that by three points and they dug out a win by the minimum margin here to move into a share of fourth place.

Inniskeen struck an early goal through Ronan Meegan, but that was the only time the teams were separated by more than two points. They were level four times in the first half and as play became ever scrappier in a second half that produced just five scores, Latton ground out a valuable result.

Hugh McElroy, Edmund Lennon, Kieran and Owen Duffy and Aidan Farmer played central roles for Latton, while Matthew McKenna, Robert Lorenz and Ronan Meegan did most to keep Inniskeen in contention.

Inniskeen started with purpose, creating a goal chance in the first minute when their trio of Meegans up front – Ronan, Paul and Dónal – combined, only for the latter to be denied by Latton keeper Seán Farmer. The Grattans didn’t have long to wait, however, as in the fourth minute, Shane Woods sent in a long ball to Paul Meegan, who laid it off for Ronan Meegan to fire into an empty net.
