NO HOUSING CRISIS IN CO MONAGHAN – CHIEF EXECUTIVE

We do no have a housing crisis in Co Monaghan,” Chief Executive Eugene Cummins told Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council.

It has been customary for the county’s local public representatives to link the words “housing” and “crisis” in their discussions of accommodation issues in recent times (as Noel Keelan did at Monday’s meeting) but, responding to questions which arose from his monthly management report to the Council, Mr Cummins was keen to convey an alternative impression.

He said there was no one homeless in the county. There was a demand for about 44 new houses per year which he believed they would meet. They also had a demand for the HAP or Housing Assistance Payment which they would meet, and they would be leasing additional properties.
