NOVEL CHALLENGE PLAYED OVER THREE GOLF COURSES SET TO TEE OFF

In the week that Rory McIlroy is ensconced in court in an off-the-course battle that has grabbed the world’s attention, there is an altogether different course of action being taken locally by the good burghers of Rossmore, Concra Wood and Mannan Castle golf clubs.

In what will be the first of its kind in this neck of the woods, the Farney Challenge is all set to entice, excite and engender bunker loads of interest among a whole host of amateur golfers from near and far but particularly from around the hinterland of all three clubs.

The Farney Challenge is an event to be held in June next which is the brainchild of a trio of doers playing out of Rossmore Golf Club – the Cootehill Road, Monaghan town based place of golfing excellence.

Current Rossmore Captain Donal Guckian has teamed up with club colleagues Maurice McBirney (Vice-Captain) and John Heffernan (Handicap Secretary) to launch the novel tournament which will be run over three days next June.

The hope among the organisers is that the Farney Challenge will promote the game of golf within all three host clubs and the county as a whole.
