The signing of a €4.3 million contract for the new single campus Castleblayney College is a landmark occasion for students, parents, teachers and the community at large. The whole of the county is aware of the long-running saga of the split school campus at the college.

For fifteen years the college has mounted a campaign to have a single campus and eliminate the dangers of having the N2 roadway through the college. More than a thousand crossings daily between buildings posed a risk to students and now that risk is to be eliminated following the signing of the contract for a 2000 sq. mt. extension on the east campus. School Principal, Mr Gerry Hand, was in buoyant form when issuing a statement regarding the extension.

“This is certainly a red letter day for everyone at the college and for all those who have campaigned over the last fifteen years to have the single campus. No less than six Ministers for Education have been strongly lobbied throughout the campaign and, at last, there is an end in sight after many false starts. The building contractors are on site as we speak and we will have a single campus by mid-2016 with state of the art facilities that will make the college one of the most modern education facilities in the country.
