This evening, Thursday, December 4th, sees the elected officers of Monaghan County Board, the membership of the various subcommittees and the club delegates, gather in plenary session in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan, for Convention 2015.
Convention is traditionally a time when the year just ending is reviewed in all its varying aspects and discussions take place and plans are made and outlined for the year ahead. Over the years though, the degree of business that is now conducted at County Convention has been greatly diminished with the result that convention itself can be a relatively quiet affair.
That certainly looks like being the case this year with no elections needed but the county committee is going to Convention with two positions on the Management Committee vacant, that of Development Officer, vacated by Gerry McDonnell under the five-year rule and Hurling Officer with Malachy Trainor stepping down. Those two positions will now be filled at a County committee meeting early in the New Year, probably the January meeting and clubs will be asked to submit nominations for the respective officerships in advance of that meeting.
