HOLDERS Donegal cruised into the Nicky Rackard Cup quarter-finals thanks to a facile twenty points win over a make shift Monaghan in O’Donnell Park Letterkenny on Saturday afternoon last.

Earlier in the day Monaghan looked to have forfeited the game when the Donegal camp received notice just before noon that their opponents weren’t traveling, for echoes of the still damaging Allianz Hurling league division 3A final of 2012 when Monaghan were forced to concede to Fingal. However, it wasn’t just as bad as that and later another call was made just as Donegal were organising a training session, to confirm that Monaghan were reversing the first call and that they would be fielding a team.

As it turned out though it was a cobbled-together troop of just seventeen players that made the trip, but by the sixth minute they were beginning to wonder if they’d made the right call as by then they were nine points in arrears and Donegal in rampant mood.
