POSTERITY NUDGES POLITICS ASIDE AT FINAL GATHERING OF CURRENT CO COUNCIL

Northern Standard photographer Rory Geary wielded the baton like a conductor on the last night of the Proms.

Before him the orchestra of Monaghan Co Council members and officials achieved a union in a chorus of smiles that had rarely if even been coaxed from them by the clanging gavel of the Co Mayors who had presided over their deliberations during the previous five years.

Tuesday’s final meeting of the county authority before the local government elections of Friday May 23 ushers in a Brave New World of local government administration commenced with a group photograph for the annals – and in the proceedings that followed the promptings of posterity largely nudged the exigencies of politics aside (despite one or two attempts at eve-of-poll grandstanding and one-upmanship).
