CROKE PARK SHOWDOWN POTENTIAL TO BE A CRACKER

Meetings between Monaghan and Donegal in season defining matches are becoming something of a regular item as the sides meet again this Sunday in the final of the Allianz football league division 2 in Croke Park.

Both sides have already been promoted to division 1 for next season so on the face of it the only thing to be sorted out on Sunday is the destination of the silverware, but there is a lot more at stake than that in this division 2 final.

Monaghan and Donegal met in the final of last year’s Ulster senior football championship when Monaghan caused something of a shock by dethroning the reigning Ulster and All Ireland champions with a game of pace, power and poise that the champions just simply could not match on the day for a result that ended Jim McGuinness’ unbeaten run of ten matches in Ulster.

With both plying their trade in division 2 in the 2014 league it was always going to be interesting as to how they would finish up but in the final analysis there was only a couple of points in the points difference column, in the league table separating them.
