Plenty of football for Monaghan’s players ahead of Sunday week’s Allianz NFL clash with Donegal. by COLM SHALVEY

Monaghan’s senior footballers have another weekend free of fixtures as they prepare for Sunday week’s Allianz National Football League Division Two showdown with Donegal in Letterkenny, but Malachy O’Rourke will again be keeping his fingers crossed this weekend.

Colin Walshe, Kieran Hughes and Rory Beggan were all in inter-provincial action last Sunday, along with Conor McManus, when they helped Ulster to a high-scoring extra-time win over Leinster. The former trio, along with UCD’s Ryan Wylie, head to Belfast tomorrow for the Sigerson Cup finals weekend, with the semi-final winners set to contest the decider on Saturday.

Queen’s University are hosting this year’s Sigerson Cup finals weekend at their playing grounds, The Dub, with local side UUJ going in as favourites. ‘The Poly’ booked their semi-final place with a hard-earned win over holders DIT in Dublin last Thursday, with Monaghan players to the fore.
