JUDGE’S WARNING: ROAD TRAFFIC DEFENDANTS MUST HAVE DRIVING LICENCES IN COURT
A “last warning” emanated from the bench of Monaghan District Court this week to people coming before the court accused of Road Traffic Act offences.
Defendants were reminded that they must by law have their driving licences with them in court – and that they could face the loss of their licences if they didn’t comply with the requirement.
Reinforcing a request to those present at Monday’s sittings made by the court registrar, Judge Sean MacBride said it was a criminal offence for any defendant in a road traffic case not to have their driving licence in court.
Judge MacBride asked the local press to carry this matter prominently so no one was left in any doubt about its gravity.
