SOUTH MONAGHAN “BOMB” DEVICE MADE SAFE IN SECURITY OPERATION

THERE is speculation that a home-made explosive device found beside a car in South Monaghan last Friday may be linked to an ongoing feud between some individuals in the Carrickmacross area.

A similar device was found some months ago and two people, a man and woman, were later detained for questioning but subsequently released without charge.

Initial local reaction had linked the device with dissident activity in the area but it is understood this was subsequently ruled out.

Gardaí alerted the Army bomb disposal team after the device was discovered …
