CO COUNCIL ASKED TO MAKE PROVISION IN 2014 BUDGET FOR SIGNIFICANT MONAGHAN HOUSING AND RECREATION PROJECT

Members of Monaghan Co Council at their Annual Budget Meeting were requested to give approval to the acquisition of vacant housing and development land in the Latlorcan area of Monaghan Town to facilitate a project which had the potential, Director of Services Paul Clifford stated, to satisfy the county capital’s housing and recreation needs “for many years to come”.

After a morning’s debate, the members agreed to adjourn adoption of the 2014 Budget until Monday next, January 20.

The financial plan for the year ahead provides for a rate on valuation of 56.20, the same level of rates that has applied in the county area for the past six years.

At the outset of the meeting, Director of Services Paul Clifford said there had been a significant bettering of the Council’s finances this year, and an opportunity had arisen to acquire 16 houses and 28 acres of development land at Latlorcan in Monaghan Town.
