SEAN MCDERMOTTS realised their ambition of promotion to intermediate ranks when they won the Eurotech Junior Football League Final at the expense of Oram in this entertaining and at times very exciting, high-scoring affair that was played in front of a big crowd made up from two sets of very partisan supporters in Drumhowan on Sunday afternoon last.

While the sun was shining, ground conditions on the day were somewhat difficult with a greasy surface that made foot work and ball handling that bit more difficult and did lead to mistakes by both sides but that was more than compensated for by the wholehearted effort from both sets of players as they gave their all in pursuit of the silverware.

Prior to the start of the game the teams had to toss for choice of colours as both have a somewhat similar livery, but Sean McDermott’s won the toss and were able to field in their home strip of saffron jerseys while Oram had to wear their away colours.

Sean McDermotts made their intentions clear right from the start although Mark Keogh was off target in their first attack but they went on to open the scoring with a point from a free by Damien Larkin, who finished top scorer on the day with nine points, five from frees.

Matters were quite even at this stage as Oram levelled with a great point by Pauric Graham and three minutes later Oram took the lead with another good effort, this time by Sean Graham.

At this stage Oram were more than breaking even in the possession stakes but ground conditions were making life difficult and they saw a number of chances go amiss.
