There was shock and disbelief last weekend at the news of the fatal stabbing of Rockcorry native Emmett Connolly. The following is the statement released by the Connolly family this week:

“The family of Emmett Connolly are in deep shock at his sudden and untimely death at the age of 32. He was educated at Scoil Mhuire, Rockcorry and St. Macartan’s College, Monaghan. His love of the outdoors led him to pursue a career in archaeology. Emmett had studied in Dublin Institute of Technology and had completed his Masters degree in NUI Galway. Following graduation he had worked extensively throughout Ireland. He emigrated to Western Australia in May 2012 in order to further his career. He was based in Perth but spent most of his working time in the Outback. Emmett had just returned home 10 days ago. A loving and devoted son, brother, uncle and grandson he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family request that the media would respect their feelings and privacy at this very sad time.”
