The wheel of fortune that exercises a hypnotic fascination for viewers of the National Lottery’s WINNING STREAK game show on RTE 1 brought delight on the double to The Northern Standard’s circulation area over the Easter weekend.

Margaret Dowd from Cootehill, Co Cavan scooped €58,600, including a holiday to Paris, when she became the biggest winner of the five contestants in the main part of Saturday night’s show.

And there was a highly profitable spin for Geraldine Lennon from Toniscoffey, Co Monaghan as this week’s Winning Streak Dream Player, who landed a prize of €40,000.

Geraldine gained entry for the draw to become a Dream Player by collecting the letters D-R-A-W on the stub portion of the Winning Steak scratch cards.

Cootehill housewife Margaret purchased the scratch card that gained her participation in the main game at Tarpey’s Supervalu in the Lakelands Retail Park on Cavan’s Dublin Road.

However, she was not watching the show on which her name was drawn as she was a guest at the 80th birthday of her aunt, Rosie Coyle, in Latton, Co Monaghan.

Her sister Mary telephoned her during the party to tell her the good news, but Margaret had great difficulty accepting that her selection had really taken place.

Married to husband Christopher for 28 years, Margaret formerly worked with Eircom in Dublin. A keen sportswoman, she played camogie at county level and keeps herself active nowadays through walking. She is a keen football fan and likes to follow the TV soaps. Margaret told Winning Streak that she regards herself as a lucky person – and to prove it can look back on once getting five numbers in the Lotto.

A holiday in Italy is high on the list of the priorities she is setting for her game show windfall.
