BATTALION SET THE BEAT FOR MEMORABLE MONAGHAN PARADE

Monaghan Town’s St Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday last was an occasion that combined both dignified spectacle and sheer uninhibited fun.

As the crowds lined along the main thoroughfares of the county capital enjoyed the inventiveness and spectacle of the floats, and children availed to the full of the many special entertainment attractions, the formal beat for the event was set by the drill discipline exhibited by the colour party drawn from D Company 27th Battalion.

Our picture by Rory Geary shows 2nd Lieutenant Alexander Fennell, Corporal Stephen Tyrell and Corporal John McKenna leading the parade in advance of the Monaghan Community Brass Band.

Full photographic coverage of the Monaghan occasion and the other parades staged in our towns and villages to mark the national holiday can be seen inside this week’s edition.
