SAVAGE PULLS STRINGS TO KNOCK EMERALD SARSFIELDS OUT OF UNDER-21 CHAMPIONSHIP

MONAGHAN U21 champions Emerald Sarsfields bowed out of the Creggan based Ulster U21 tournament when they were on the wrong end of a three points margin at the end of this high scoring and very entertaining semi final encounter in Creggan last Sunday.

Now in its fourth year the Down champiions have figured in all four finals and Bryansford are hoping to continue that good run by making it three tournament victories out of four finals for the Mourne men. With that record it was no surprise that Bryansford entered last Sunday’s semi final as favourites.

Nine points from Down senior panelist Danny Savage was the difference between the teams and his accuracy always gave Bryansford an edge.

Savage opened the scoring after 18 seconds with a well taken point with David McKibbon increasing the Down men’s lead a minute later before Ryan Mc Guinness responded for Emerald’s opener and Ciaran Courtney then equalised.

David Mc Kibbon restored Bryansford to the lead and then put them two in front with two well taken frees before Ciaran Courtney finished to the net after a well worked move involving Pauric Graham and Philip Donnelly to put the Monaghan champions in front for the first time.
Pauric Graham increased the Emeralds lead with a point from a free from out along the sideline.
