This is an exciting prospect for staff and student who will take up occupancy of the largest building on the site of the new Monaghan Education Campus at Knockaconny.

The accommodation amounts to 7,050 m2, is arranged over four floors in two separate blocks and linked with a glazed atrium space. It will accommodate 700 students. This building is essentially a third-level teaching space and students can study courses in subjects as diverse as Childcare, Hairdressing, Engineering, Beauty, Communications, Information Technology and Animal Care to list but a few. There are also eight Multi-media laboratories – two of which are fitted with Apple’s latest hi-spec. iMac Computers.

Monaghan Institute was established in 1992 to expand further education locally. For the last two decades, the majority of classes were condutced in accommodation rented from the HSE at the St. Davnet’s Complex. Because of the increased demand for further education courses, the facility on the new Education Campus is a very welcome development. Staff and students are eager to re-locate and look forward to working in classrooms that are designed specifically to the needs of the specific subject areas with additional regular classrooms, a tiered seated lecture hall, library, consulting rooms, canteen and study area.

The Institute will have access to a shared theatre which is also on the campus. The Sports Hall will be shared between the Institute and Coláiste Oiriall on a time controlled basis with each of them having their own fitness suites.

The future is bright for Monaghan Institute as they move to the state-of-the art building and Co. Monaghan VEC is looking forward to continuing its provision of an innovative curriculum for the students who attend from near and far.
