The Embrace the Punt Campaign may have originated in Clones but Carrickmacross Chamber of Commerce has brought it to South Monaghan ….
Recently a local lady who was spring cleaning found £100 worth of Carrickmacross Gift Vouchers in the old currency in a bottom drawer in mint condition which expired in 1993.
So she brought them into Carrick to show Jim Hand, President of the Chamber of Commerce.
Jim told The Northern Standard: “This being the season of goodwill, we were delighted to exchange the old gift vouchers for new ones, with a little extra, taking the exchange rate into account.”
The lady received €130 in valid Carrickmacross Gift Vouchers for her efforts. Jim also invited people who may have expired Carrickmacross Gift Vouchers in denominations of punt to come forward, as these will be honoured and exchanged for new ones which do not expire.
This is a great good news story for the times we live in and Jim Hand is complimented for putting his money where his mouth is when it comes to shopping local!
